Our Bird Expert

Angel Fong, a native of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, is our Tour leader and Guide. He has a deep love for his country and as a member of the Scout Association of Honduras, the Junior Chamber International and the Honduran Association of Ornithology he has done volunteer work for over 20 years. In his former life he was a credit analyst and software programmer, but due to his passion for birds and nature he decided to take a 180 turn on his career and got certified as an advanced birding guide with the support of USAID and Proparque. He was quickly renowned for his passion and knowledge about birds, and after working as a guide for some time he decided to take the leap and start his own birding and eco-tourism company. He is currently the coordinator for the “Honduras International migratory bird day´s”, organized by EFTA Environment of the Americas. Go Bird Honduras has a continuous presence at the most important bird fair in the world. “British Birdwatching Fair”.

  • Day 1 - Arrival to Tegucigalpa Airport and transfer to Hotel Las Gloriales
  • Landing at Toncontin airport, then we will move to Hotel Los Gloriales, a beautiful accommodation near the emblematic La Tigra National Park, where the predominance of pine forest and its elevation make possible the sighting of the most emblematic birds of the area, during your stay it is possible to appreciate a beautiful landscape, while observing a considerable amount of species of special interest, such as Northern Emerald Toucanet, Bushy-crested Jay, Steller's Jay, Great Swallow-tailed Swift.
  • Day 2 - Birding at La Tigra National Park (most of the day)
  • La Tigra National Park is the oldest protected reserve in Honduras, established in 1980, but protected by the community since 1920, is largely a cloud forest of 127 square miles, in this park we can find a great biodiversity of species, and especially some of our regional endemic species, such as Green-breasted Mountain Gem, Garnet-Throated Hummingbird, Wine-throated Hummingbird, Singing Quail, White-faced Quail Dove, Fulvous Owl, Resplendent Quetzal, Rufous-browed Wren, Slate-colored Solitaire, Amethyst-throated and many more.
  • Day 3 - Birding at “Montaña de Izopo” and transfer to Marcala, La Paz Opatoro-Guajiquiro Reserve
  • The beauty of pine-oak forest, and a particular distribution of bird species, make "the Mountain of Izopo" a place of special beauty for bird watching. During this easygoing route you will see species such as: Mexican Violetear, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, Steller´s Jays, Orange-billed Nigthtingale-Thrush, Blue and White Mockingbird, Ocellated Quail, White-faced Ground-sparrow, Great Horned Owl, Guatemalan Pigmy owl. Then we will go to the Opatoro-Guajiquiro reserve, another beautiful country location.   • Day 4 - Birding at “Opatoro-Guajiquiro” Reserve (most part of the day)
  • Famous for its high quality coffee, it also offers an excellent variety of ecosystems, oak pine forest and cloud forest of incomparable beauty, a special site where an exorbitant number of birds converge that will make this an unforgettable experience, during the tour Not only will we be able to observe a number of birds of great interest but also, they will be in contact with a community of direct descendants of ancestral tribes like the Lencas, we will be able to observe emblematic species like Brown-backed Solitarie, Golden-browed Warbler, Fulvous Owl , Blue-throated Motmot, Sparkling-tailed Hummingbird, Rufous-browed Wren, Rufous-collared Sparrow, Northen Flicker, and many other species.
  • Day 5 - Birding at Marcala Highlands and transfer to Tegucigalpa airport

  • Lancetilla Botanical Garden is a botanical garden located on the Caribbean coast in the north of the Republic of Honduras, about 7 km southeast of the city of Tela, during our visit, we observe a high biodiversity, a place where in short period of time a large number of bird species observed, among the most prominent are: White-collared Manakin, Buff-throated Saltator, Slaty-tailed Trogon, Bright-rumped Atila, Tawny-winged Woodcreeper, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Paltry Tyranulet, then we will move to another place in the country, the spectacular Rio Santiago Nature Resort.
  • Day 3 - Birding at Cuero y Salado Wildlife Reserve
  • Cuero y Salado offers a unique opportunity to observe a variety of flora and fauna like no other place you can see, when crossing rivers with reflections on still calm water. We have the possibility of observing bird species of great beauty, some of these species are: 5 of the 6 species of Kingfisher reported in the country (Amazon, Ringed, Belted, Green, and of course American Pigmy), Lineated Woodpecker, Russet-naped Wood Rail, Black-crowned Antshrike, Agami Heron, Boat-billed Heron, among others.
  • Day 4 - Birding at Rio Santiago Nature Resort (most part of the day)
  • Located in the foothills of the Pico Bonito National Park, this site offers a paradise for lovers of birdwatching and photography, with more than 100 hummingbird feeders around the Resort, this site has reported more than 30 of the 47 Species of hummingbirds existing in the country, in addition to bird species of great value, some mentioned below: Crowned Woodnymph, Brown Violetear, Scaly-breasted Hummingbird, Black-crested Coquette, Olive-backed Euphonia, White-vented Euphonia, Central American Pigmy-Owl, Olivaceous Piculet.

  • Day 3 - Birding at Santa Barbara N.P. (Fuente de Vida Project)
  • Located an hour and a half from the Lake Yojoa, Santa Barbara National Park also offers stunning landscapes, an opportunity to observe birds of unsurpassed beauty, visit the private reserve "Project Source of Life" in the community of San Luis plans, where not only observe bird species, but also leave footprint, supporting the community through our visit; Featured species in the area: Resplendent Quetzal, Buffy-crowned Wood-partridge, Emerald-chinned Hummingbird, White-crowned Parrot, Brown-capped Vireo, Golden-crowned Warbler, Rufous Collared Sparrow, Blue-crowned Chlorophonia, Amethyst-throated Hummingbird, Tawny-throated Leaftosser, Prevost’s Ground-sparrow, Ruddy-quail Dove.

After lunch we will transport to the mystic city of Copan Ruins, home to one of the most important Mayan archaeological sites in Central America.
  • Day 3 - Birding at “Archaeological site of Copan Ruins”, Transfer to Gracias, Lempira
  • During that day, we will visit the Mayan citadel of Copan, named World Heritage Site. This site is of special interest. It was once home to the Mayan civilization in its beginnings, and an important Mayan city, home to the greatest priests and scientists of its time, besides this we will have the possibility to birding inside the archaeological site where we can find numerous species such as: Elegant Trogon, Collared Trogon, Scarlet Macaw, Elegant Euphonia, Red-throated Parakeet, Then we will mobilize to the beautiful city of Gracias, where we will stay in the area of the colonial city.
  • Day 4 - Birding at “Montaña de Celaque”, Transfer to The Yojoa Lake
  • During the day we will take a tour of the National Park Celaque, which is part of the Biosphere of Man, has a combination of ecosystems that allow the sighting of a particular number of regional endemic species highly attractive for bird watching, we can see species such as:Sparkling-tailed Hummingbird, Ocellated Quail, Lesser Roadrunner, Green-throated Mountain Gem, Honduran Emerald, Magnificent Hummingbird, Turquoise-browed Motmot, and many more. Then we will move to the Yojoa Lake, not before passing through the private reserve the Counselor, where we can appreciate species of birds of special interest such as Magnificent Hummingbird, Azure-crowned Hummingbird, Rufous-browed Peppershrike.
  • Day 5 - Birding at “Cerro Azul Meambar Nacional Park” (most part of the day)
  • The lake area has more than 500 species of birds reported throughout its territory, offering a wide range of ecosystems as well as an opportunity to appreciate species of different habitats, from wetlands to cloud forest, during this day we will take a tour by the trails of the national park, and by the wetlands of the lake, with a great opportunity to observe more than 100 species on the same day.
